GR654 Randonnee to Castillonnes

Walking

Walk no further than to the rear entrance of the grounds and you are on the GR 636 -654 part of the Grand Randonees , a network of pathways throughout France (part of an ancient Pilgrimage route). Apart from strolling up to Castillonnes to the market or for a spot of lunch or even perhaps to watch a movie at the local cinema, there are also several local walks of varying distances to enjoy, including the Grand Randonnee adjacent to Le Berme.

Cycling

This is a paradise for the cycling enthusiast with beautiful rolling landscape that goes on, seemingly forever. There are two signposted circular routes (54 and 75 kilometres) that pass within a couple of kilometres of Le Berme and the owner, who is keen member of the local cycle club, is happy to share these and his other regular routes with you, or equally you are welcome to join him for a couple hours tour without having to look at a map. (See Gîte Plus – new for this year, we have two adult electric bikes that will let the battery take the strain).

  • Friendly roads

  • Endless tracks and roads

Swimming/Kayaking

There is a decent outdoor municipal swimming pool at Castillonnes and a fresh water lake (with beaches) about a ten minutes away at Lougratte, should you fancy a longer swim than our 10 metre pool. For those who like to take to the water (and in theory not get too wet), there are Kayaks/Canoes that can be rented from the many numerous places along the Dordogne, Vezere , Le Lot and Le Dropt rivers.

  • it’s easy, even standing up….

  • Stopped for a drink and rest

Touring by Car

Within a short drive from Le Berme, there is a wonderful variety of cultural heritage and typically French 'fêtes et manifestations'.

Bastide towns – Apart from Castilliones which is less than 5 minutes away by car, there are the delightful Bastide towns of Eymet, Issigeac, Villereal, Beaumontois, Monpazier and Monflanquin all within a 10/20 kilometres radius. If you are happy to go slightly further afield, there are also the impressive bastide towns of Domme and Villefranche du Perigord.

Fancy a vineyard tour? There are many vineyards in the region with the closest being in the direction of Bergerac and Duras. The nearest vineyard being less than 20 minutes away. There are also chateaux and gardens to visit and if you are very keen, there are different farmers’ markets or 'brocantes' every day of the week.
